| These guys, in oil, came into being with a view to expressing the idea of the pre Christian warriors of Celtic origin. Of necessity it is required that ones imagination is used to interpret the outcome. The warriors would be high on enthusiasm and low on armory so I decided to give them a crude spear as their weapon. I placed them at strategic locations within their environment, primarily near natural rock formations that afforded some shelter and extra defensive cover, or indeed somewhere to hide. Some of this cover may have been manmade while others are considered natural. The appearance of the cross at this time suggests an area of torture and killing.
The warriors bear a certain naiveté as they are of a Neolithic era. Fresh imagery, vibrant colors and non-traditional perspective characterize their naiveté.
However, the Naïve style, with its childlike vision and artistic simplicity, is sometimes referred to as modern primitives, and this suits these guys to a tee. Naïve art invites us to participate in scenes suffused with vivid colors and bold shapes, inspiring wonder.
Measures 10 x 8 inches.
